Albert William Tiplady was born in 1906, the son of farmer Zachariah Tiplady (c1861-1933) and his wife Elizabeth Tiplady (nee Taylor) (1865-1924).
Albert attended Okaiawa School, got in a bit of trouble in his twenties then settled down and began dairy farming. Both his parents died while he was young, leaving Albert to be kept on the straight and narrow by his two older sisters, Jean and Alice.
Albert was working on a farm at Tikorangi when the Second World War began and served in the Home Guard before heading overseas in 1941 as a Gunner with the 2nd New Zealand Divisional Artillery.
His sisters and friends farewelled him at a party at Tikorangi Hall in August of that year.
Albert fought overseas for four years, returning home in September 1945. He was welcomed back with yet another party, featuring euchre, dancing and supper.
Albert Tiplady never married and died on 22 June 1947 aged just 41. He is buried in the Services area of Te Hēnui Cemetery.
